Vientiane is Southeast Asia’s most laid-back capital. This city boasts outstanding French colonial architecture and low level buildings that are spread out in the city, enhancing a cultural and relaxed atmosphere. Life in this pleasant capital is slow-paced and there is always only a light flow of traffic, even during rush hour! We explore this little, peaceful capital at a leisurely pace visiting some of the finest and most important historical sites in Laos.
Day1: Arrival – Vientiane
On arrival in the Laos capital of Vientiane, you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Vientiane is a charming and fascinating capital, with an interesting mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and American influences.
After a short rest. You are seeing the major temples of Vientiane including the oldest, Wat Sisaket, with its thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. We also visit the national icon of Laos, That Luang Stupa, stopping along the way to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph, from there you visit COPE Center. The COPE was created in response to the need to provide UXO survivors with the care and support they required, namely by way of orthotic and prosthetic devices. This museum was set after in 1997 to help covering the victim during Indochina war.
The Mekong River road is the perfect place to end the day and admire the sunset. Overnight in Vientiane (B)
Day2: Vientiane – Nam Ngum Lake
After breakfast, we head out of the city and make our way to Nam Ngum, a huge reservoir created by damming the Nam Ngum River. We stop over at Ban Keun, which is famous for its salt extraction facility. On arrival at Nam Ngum Lake, we embark on a long tail boat visiting fishing villages in the various islets along the way. We take a short walk to explore the lifestyle of the local fishmen.
We return to Vientiane late evening and your evenng is free. Overnight in Vientiane (B)
Day3: Vientiane – Departure
If time permits this morning we will visit Talat Sao, the Morning Market, before your transfer to the airport for departure (B)
